What Yoga Means at Ancestral

Yoga education, as we understand it, is meant to shape the whole human being. Not only the body, though the body matters. Not only the technique, though we teach it rigorously. What we hold space for over these weeks is something wider: breath, awareness, philosophy, devotion, ceremony, music, and enough time on this land that it begins teaching you things nobody scheduled. Our trainings are rooted in the wisdom of yoga and enriched by the ancestral healing traditions of South America — held together, not one as decoration for the other.

Most schools quietly choose a side. Either the training is about alignment and sequencing, or it leans spiritual and the physical practice becomes a warm-up for something else. We never understood why it had to be one.

What we are not building is a bubble. No guru at the front of the room, no one to become dependent on, no vocabulary you have to adopt in order to belong. The people who leave here do not teach by imitation. They teach from what they actually lived through — which is the only thing that ever transfers to a student anyway.

You arrive carrying more than you need. Over the weeks, some of it falls away. What is left is usually what was yours the whole time. We call it a Yoga Teacher Training. And yes, you will learn how to teach, and you will leave with a certificate. But almost nobody comes here for the paperwork. They come because something in their life is asking to change. What happens over these weeks is quieter than a curriculum: you find your voice, you stop apologising for taking up space, and you begin to trust what you already know. We hold the room, the guidance, and the craft for whatever comes next. We hand you every tool we have. What you build with them is yours.

Upcoming Events for 2026

Rape Ceremony Ancestral Retreats

at magical Lake Chivor, Colombia

200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

LAST SPOTS!

August 23 – September 18

(27 Days)

Four weeks at a lake in the Colombian mountains. The days are warm, the evenings cool, and time behaves differently here: full of new impressions, and somehow slower than at home. You learn to sequence a class, to teach, to hold a room. You also learn what you are like without your usual distractions. Most people leave with the certificate and with something harder to name: a steadier mind, and a clearer sense of what they want next.

Rape Ceremony Ancestral Retreats

at private beach, Palomino Colombia

200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

November 17 – December 10

(24 Days)

Three and a half weeks on a private Caribbean beach beneath the Sierra Nevada, with the ocean a few steps from the shala. The days are warm, the evenings filled by the sound of the waves, and time behaves differently here: full of new impressions, and somehow slower than at home. The strangers you arrive with become the people you will stay connected with. You leave able to guide a class with confidence. You also leave knowing more about how you want to live.

Rape Ceremony Ancestral Retreats

Mango Forest, Anapoima, Colombia

100-Hour Kriya Kundalini, Tantra & Bhakti Training

October 11 – 24

(14 Days)

Fourteen days of Kriya Kundalini and Bhakti yoga, surrounded by mango trees in Anapoima. The practices are profound in a way that is hard to describe until you have done them: heart-opening kriyas, strong breath techniques, and mantra repetition until something unfolds. The mornings and evenings belong to chanting, which tends to undo people in the best way. You leave with 100 certified hours and a practice that no longer needs a room, a mat or a teacher to work.

What Sets Us Apart

Yoga in all its dimensions

We believe yoga is more than physical practice. Our training integrates Hatha-Kundalini, Vinyasa, Acro Yoga, and Himalayan Kriya Yoga with pranayama, mantra, ritual, and Bhakti, offering a path that is both technically grounded and spiritually alive. This is a space where practice becomes prayer, and every moment becomes part of the journey.

Inner Purpose & Nervous System Healing

This training offers more than a certification. It is a space to slow down, regulate the nervous system, release stress, and reconnect with what truly matters. Through breath, movement, ritual, self-inquiry, and community, you are invited to find deeper meaning, emotional clarity, and a healthier relationship with your body, mind, and heart. It is a sacred pause from daily life, a journey into spiritual depth, inner healing, and renewed purpose.

Intimate Group Size

We cap every training at sixteen people, and most groups end up closer to twelve. That number is not a marketing decision. It is the largest group where a teacher can still notice that you have been quiet for two days, or that something shifted in your practice this morning, or that you need a different cue than the person next to you. In a room of forty, none of that gets seen. It also means one-on-one mentorship that is actually one-on-one, dedicated sessions where you can bring whatever is surfacing, ask the questions you did not want to ask in front of the group, and think out loud with someone who has been paying attention to you specifically.

Ancestral Ceremonies

Engage in profound rituals like Rapé, Blue Lotus, Temazcal, and Cacao ceremonies. Rapé, a sacred tobacco-based practice, helps ground your energy and clear mental blocks. Blue Lotus supports deep relaxation, subtle inner vision, and meditative awareness. The Temazcal, a traditional sweat lodge ceremony, encourages purification, release, and renewal through heat, steam, and prayer. The Cacao ceremony fosters heart-opening connection and self-awareness.

Community

Every group has been an unlikely mix: people in their twenties beside people in their sixties, wildly different lives and languages, arriving as strangers and leaving as friends. Then something else begins. Graduating does not end your relationship with Ancestral. It changes it. You join an ongoing network of practitioners and teachers across four continents: alumni circles, local meetups, online gatherings where people bring the questions that only surface once you are actually teaching. Graduates collaborate on retreats together. They refer students to each other. Some end up co-teaching, some end up working with us. From the first message you send us — before you have booked anything, before you have decided — through the training itself, and long after you have flown home.

Why choosing us?

It’s about you

Welcome to our Yoga Alliance certified Yoga Teacher Training, created for those who seek more than a conventional certification. This is an immersive and deeply personal journey into the full spectrum of yoga, where rigorous practice, spiritual depth, ritual, and community come together as one.

Rooted in ancient wisdom and shaped for modern seekers, the training offers a strong foundation in asana, pranayama, meditation, and yogic philosophy, while also opening space for inner transformation. Beyond technique, we explore the emotional, energetic, and spiritual dimensions of the path, inviting each student into a more embodied, honest, and meaningful relationship with yoga.

This work can be beautiful, intense, and deeply revealing. Growth does not only happen through discipline and study, but through the courage to meet yourself fully. We hold that process with compassion, integrity, and presence.

Our groups are intentionally small, allowing for personal guidance, authentic exchange, and deep connection. This creates a learning environment that is intimate, grounded, and real. Here, practice becomes ritual, knowledge becomes lived experience, and teaching begins as an inner unfolding.

You will leave with the tools to teach complete and intelligent classes, but also with something less tangible and even more essential: a stronger connection to your own truth, your own voice, and the kind of leadership that arises from embodied practice.

This is not just a training. It is a return to your roots, a journey inward, and an invitation to rise in community.

Marco

E-RYT500 Yoga Teacher, Philosopher & Musician

Marco is a graduate philosopher, passionate musician, and experienced German yoga teacher. After completing his first Yoga Teacher Training in India, he began teaching immediately at the Berlin-based school Yoga on the Move. He is the co-founder of Ancestral Retreats & Academy.

As a Yoga Alliance certified teacher (E-RYT 500) specializing in Hatha, Kundalini, and Vinyasa Yoga, Marco has completed four training programs in India, Italy, and Colombia, accumulating more than 1,080 hours of study and practice. In his classes, movement and breath are woven together to guide students into a meditative flow or into a deeper experience of steadiness and ease within each posture. His teaching supports beginners with clarity and encouragement, while also offering more advanced practitioners challenge, depth, and refinement through posture, pranayama, and the timeless wisdom of yoga.

For more than a decade, Marco has explored questions of integrative and embodied ways of being in relationship with the world. He brings the rational depth of Western philosophy into dialogue with the lived, practice-based wisdom of Eastern traditions such as the Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali, Taoism, and Zen Buddhism. This union of inquiry and experience informs his teaching, offering students a path that is intellectually grounded, spiritually alive, and deeply relevant to modern life.

As a musician, Marco is proficient in a range of instruments, including the Indian harmonium, guitar, percussion, and flutes. He brings music into each day through mantras, medicine music, and beloved songs that naturally bring people together. In this way, he creates spaces of joy, devotion, and connection that invite participants not only to practice together, but to truly meet one another.
