Meditation & Yoga

A Gentle Silent Retreat

A 5-night retreat for deep rest, inner listening, nervous system support, and integration. With 3 full days of device-free silence on a private beach in Palomino, Colombia.

January  20 – 25, 2027

In a world full of noise, distractions, and so many competing messages, it is easy to become disconnected from our own deeper knowing.

This retreat offers a rare pause from devices, conversation, responsibilities, and the constant stream of external input, inviting you to slow down, listen, and create space for what is ready to be felt, met, and integrated.

Over five nights, with three full days of silence followed by a spacious re-entry and integration day, we weave together meditation, gentle yoga, breathwork, somatic embodiment practices, nourishing meals, and time in nature – all in support of deep listening, clarity, and integration that continues beyond the retreat.

Held on a private beach at the foot of Colombia’s Sierra Nevada mountains, the ocean, jungle, open sky, and the rhythm of the waves offer spaciousness, quiet, and support as you are gently guided to reconnect with the wisdom that is already within you.

What Sets This Silent Retreat Apart

Integration-Focused

This retreat is designed to help you digest and integrate what has already been opened – whether through plant medicine, grief, stress, spiritual practice, life transition, or a period of deep inner change.

A Nervous System–Sensitive Approach

Our practices are intentionally gentle, grounding, and stabilizing. We prioritize safety, trust, and pacing, especially for those coming out of deep experiences or moving through emotionally tender times.

Silence as a Transformative Practice

With the right support, silence can become a powerful pathway to clarity, inner connection, and healing, giving the body and mind space to settle, process, and unwind.

Rooted in Embodied Yogic & Meditative Traditions

Drawing from Hatha and Kundalini yoga, pranayama, meditation, and subtle energy practices, this retreat is rooted in both traditional and contemporary approaches to awareness, embodiment, integration, and inner transformation.

An Intimate, Thoughtfully Held Container

Small group size and experienced facilitation allow for a deeply held, supportive environment where participants can fully and safely drop in.

The Highlights

What to expect

Curriculum & Practice

L

Silence (Mauna)

For the core of the retreat, participants will enter shared silence with no speaking, electronic devices, work, or communication with the outside world, allowing your system to settle, turn inward, and listen more deeply. Devices will be collected or turned off, depending on your preference, when we enter silence on the first evening. They will be returned after silence breaks on the third evening. The following day will be held as a gentle re-entry and integration day, with any device use kept minimal and intentional so the effects of the silence and practice have time to settle more fully.

L

Meditation Practice

Daily guidance and silent meditation sessions will help cultivate stillness, awareness, and openness to what is ready to be felt and seen.

L

Yoga & Somatic Work

Slow, intentional movement practices designed to support embodiment, inner stillness, nervous system regulation, and integration. These practices are not about performance or advanced postures, and instead are offered to help you inhabit the body more fully, listen to what is present, and support your system through the process of silence.

L

Pranayama & Nervous System Regulation

Breath-based practices will be offered to stabilize and harmonize the body during periods of deep integration and emotional processing. The breathwork in this retreat will be gentle and grounding rather than intense or activating.

Transformation & Experience

L

Dharma Talks & Reflection

Daily teachings will offer context for silence, meditation, integration, embodied practice, and the process of meeting ourselves more directly. During the period of silence, participants will be able to submit written questions to the teachers.

L

Nature & Rest

Space to rest, journal, walk in nature, spend time by the ocean, and simply be among the Sierra Nevada’s unique fauna and flora.

L

Gentle Re-entry

A gentle transition out of silence with optional sharing, space for reflection, time to connect, and 1:1 support available.

L

Integration Support

Structured and unstructured space during and optionally after the retreat to allow insights, emotions, and experiences to naturally process and be held.

The Practice

Why Silence?

Most of us live with a constant stream of input: messages, notifications, news, work, conversation, social media, and the pressure to always be available. Over time, this can fragment our attention and make it harder to rest, feel, listen, and integrate.

Research has shown that breaks from internet access can improve our attention span, mental health, and many other aspects of well-being. It also shows that when external stimulation decreases, the mind naturally shifts into modes of reflection, integration, and connection that can foster greater creativity, insight, and self-understanding. But in daily life, it is rare that we are able to take a true pause from constant input.

In the practice of silence, we step away from these external inputs so the body and mind have space to settle. Silence here is not austerity or escape, but a supported space for deep rest, inner listening, and integration.

As the mind begins to settle and unwind, what has not yet been processed may begin to surface, soften, and move through. Rather than pushing experience away or trying to transcend it, we allow it to be felt and integrated through the body.

For some, silence becomes a space to digest what has been opened through ceremony, grief, stress, spiritual practice, or life transition. For others, it deepens an existing practice and opens access to subtler layers of awareness, feeling, and inner stillness. For many, it becomes a way of hearing themselves more clearly beneath the noise of daily life.

Who is Ancestral Retreats?

Your Hosts

Aimee is a meditation and yoga teacher

Aimee

E-RYT200 Meditation Teacher &
Event Facilitator

Before shifting her focus to teaching yoga and meditation, Aimee spent over a decade as a behavioral scientist, with a PhD from Duke University and a Master’s in Psychology focused on well-being. In addition to teaching yoga and meditation, she writes about psychological healing and the spiritual path, and supports others in integrating transformative experiences, including grief and loss.

Aimee is primarily a practitioner of bhakti yoga, classical Tantra in the nondual Shaiva tradition, and extended silent retreat practice. Her teaching is grounded in embodied practice, working directly with the body and breath to support emotional processing, integration, and awareness.

Her approach to meditation is rooted in nondual Tantra and the teachings of Adyashanti, learning to be with what’s already here. She works with meditation as both a spiritual practice and a support for psychological healing, creating space for emotional experience to be felt and integrated.

Marco

E-RYT500 Yoga Teacher, Philosopher & Musician

Marco is an experienced German yoga teacher, graduate philosopher, musician, and co-founder of Ancestral Retreats & Academy.

As a Yoga Alliance certified teacher (E-RYT 500), he has completed more than 1,080 hours of training in Hatha, Kundalini, and Vinyasa Yoga in India, Italy, and Colombia. He has taught students of all levels through asana, pranayama, guided meditation, and Qigong-inspired practices. His clear and grounded approach helps beginners feel supported while inviting experienced practitioners into greater depth, awareness, and refinement.

With a background in Western philosophy and more than a decade of exploring Eastern wisdom traditions, Marco connects philosophical inquiry with embodied practice. His teaching draws from the Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali, Taoism, and Zen Buddhism, making ancient teachings accessible and relevant to modern life.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Marco integrates harmonium, guitar, percussion, flutes, mantras, and medicine music into his work. Through movement, meditation, philosophy, and music, he creates spaces of presence, joy, devotion, and genuine connection.

What we offer

A Gentle, Embodied Approach

This retreat is intentionally designed to support embodied awareness, emotional integration, and a deeper capacity to be with ourselves as we are.

Our approach is grounded in the understanding that healing is not only mental or emotional, but embodied, and that spiritual practice is not separate from the body, the nervous system, or the unresolved experiences we carry.

Through silence, meditation, breathwork, gentle movement, and somatic awareness, we create space for experience to be felt, processed, and integrated. Here, permission becomes part of the practice and part of the medicine: permission to feel, to rest, to not know, to soften, to struggle, and to unfold at your own pace. In this way, the retreat becomes less about seeking something outside yourself, and more about learning to listen to the wisdom already present within.

While this is an inner process, it is not one we have to do completely alone. The structure of the retreat, the support of nature, the guidance offered throughout the retreat, and the quiet presence of others practicing alongside you all offer support to settle more deeply into your own experience.

This retreat is also an invitation into recognition: learning to sense the intelligence already present in the body, the heart, and the full range of experience. This inward work is not an escape from life or the world, but a way of becoming more intimate with reality – with the body, the heart, nature, the sacred, and the truth of what is actually here.

This retreat is not an end point. It is an entry into a different way of relating to yourself and your experience that can continue to unfold beyond the retreat.

FAQ

You will have many questions. Here you will find the most frequently asked questions with detailed answers. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

What if I have never meditated before? What if I struggle with meditation?

Whether you have never meditated before or have an established practice, this retreat is designed to meet you where you are. The practices will be gently guided, beginner-friendly, and adaptable, with optional breaks and a gradual building up to longer meditation periods. Struggling with meditation is a nearly universal experience, and even part of the practice itself.

Most people are surprised by how much the reduction of external input and responsibilities, along with the supportive container of the retreat, allows them to settle more deeply, sit for longer periods than they thought could be possible, and experience moments of deeper stillness, contentment, and clarity. Retreats like this often help build capacity for meditation that continues beyond your experience here.

What if I already have my own meditation practice that works for me?

Guidance will be offered throughout the retreat, but if you have an existing practice that resonates with you, you are welcome to continue with your own silent practice during meditation sessions.

What experience do I need for the Yoga classes?

Our yoga classes are designed so that everyone can participate. We support beginners to better get into position with assists and simple variations. We show intermediate participants challenging variants and let professionals try out demanding postures and breathing techniques. We always provide assistance if needed to improve posture and alignment.

What style of Yoga will be taught?

We have a holistic approach. We mainly teach Hatha and Kriya Yoga. Our yoga classes are not purely physical, they address the emotional level and work with the energy body to release blockages and create inner peace. All teachers have many years of teaching experience and bring different styles of India together. You are very welcome to contact us directly if you want to find out more how the program is designed and how we teach.

What if I need to do some work during the retreat?

Work will not be permitted during the retreat. This is an opportunity to step away from external responsibilities and fully enter the process.

Am I allowed to read and write during the retreat?

We encourage you to bring a notebook to journal about retreat experiences and any insights that arise. To limit external inputs and go more deeply inward into your own inner wisdom and process, we ask that you refrain from any reading during the retreat.

Can I join this retreat with a partner or friend?

Yes. However, particularly for romantic partners, we recommend staying in separate accommodations to support each person’s individual process. All participants are asked to maintain silence and refrain from interaction, even when attending with a partner or friend.

What do I have to consider before entering Colombia (CheckMig & Visa)?

As a tourist from Europe, the USA or Canada you do not need a regular visa (please check the countries in the list below, if you need an official visa). Is it safe to solo travel in Colombia – especially as a woman?

For our retreats and yoga trainings, we organize your travel to the venue directly from the airport so that it is smooth and safe. It is in general safe to travel in Colombia as a woman if you are careful not to go outside the tourist areas. However, this also applies to men. The city centers and tourist destinations like Palomino, Park Tayrona or Minca are secured by the police. At night you should not walk alone through the streets of bigger cities away from the center, but always take an official registered yellow taxi. We advise against traveling to the border regions of Colombia without a guide. We already had many female solo travellers in our retreats and training that had no issues at all. But please ask us, if you have concerns or more questions.

What is the group size at the Retreat?

We want to keep the experience as personal as possible. That’s why our groups are no larger than 18 people. The average group size is 12 people.

What if there is an emergency?

The facilitators and venue staff will be taking care of all of your needs, including your safety and wellbeing, during the retreat. In addition, we will provide an emergency contact number for your loved ones in the event they need to reach you during the period of silence.

Is this retreat therapeutic?

This retreat is intended to support healing, but it is not a substitute for therapy, medical care, or psychiatric support. The practices are designed to support embodied awareness, nervous system regulation, spiritual practice, and integration. If you have questions about whether this retreat is a good fit for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

When do I have to pay the full amount for the event?

To make a reservation for a room or a bungalow, all you have to do is pay a deposit via Credit Card or bank transfer. We usually ask for 400 € (or equal to USD). Afterwards your place is secured. We will then send you a confirmation letter and all the other information you need to prepare for your retreat. The remaining balance has to be paid via Bank Transfer two weeks before a retreat starts. If agreed with the Ancstral Retreats team you can pay also in cash on the day of the arrival. Please note that we accept cash in Euros (€), USD ($) or Pesos (COP) only. USD and COP are based on the exchange rate against the Euro, Ancestral Retreats defines beforehand. We will send you all the information and reminders in good time.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We prefer a bank transfer. If that’s not an option for you, you can also pay with a credit card link, but please consider that we have to add a fee of 3,5  % on top. We also accept cash. Cash can be paid on the day of arrival. But to make a reservation first you need to pay 400 Euros with a transfer to safe your spot. We also accept Bitcoin. Please contact us directly via email in this case. You will always recieve for any payment method a confirmation from us.

What are the cancellation terms?

Our terms and conditions you find here.

Should I be worried about Malaria?

No. Of course there is a light risk during the rainy season, but we never heard about a case in the last year. We do not recommend taking anti-malarial medication when drinking ayahuasca, as it has been known to cause complications. In the end it is your decision.
